Allocator

The Allocator module enables asset managers to quickly and accurately replicate a portfolio across multiple clients. Read on for detailed instructions on using the module.

About Allocator

Allocator provides a comprehensive summary table that breaks down data by individual account and its associated portfolio.

Allocator – Summary Table

Allocator allows asset managers to replicate a specific investment strategy across multiple client accounts simultaneously. Instead of managing each client individually, you can build a single portfolio and apply it to your entire client base in one go.

Where to find it

Open Allocator from the left-side toolbar in your EXANTE desktop platform, then click to launch.

How to use it

How to create an Asset Model

An Asset Model is a template that lists assets and their target allocation – the specific percentage or quantity you or your clients intend to own.

To create a new model, follow these steps:

1. Click Allocation.

2. Navigate to Setup > Asset Model.

You can change the name of your Asset Model by clicking the pencil icon and entering a new name in the pop-up window.

3. Drag and drop the desired instruments, define the mode (Target in % of the portfolio or absolute Quantity), and set the parameters for each selected instrument.

Allocator – Asset Model – Parameters

The module will automatically calculate the exact number of units required for each account to match these proportions.

Parameters description

Target

Determines the quantity of each asset for every account in your Account Set. Order sizes are automatically scaled based on the specific Investment Amount allocated to each account.

Direction

Indicates the intended side of your overall position (long or short), rather than an individual order side.

The chosen direction will apply to all accounts in the associated Account Set.

Quantity

To set a fixed number of units, change the Target parameter to Quantity and enter an absolute value for each asset. If you select this option, the Investment Amount per account will be ignored during the next step.

4. Click Save Model in the top right-hand corner of the screen.

5. The new model will appear in the Asset Model drop-down list, tagged as a draft. This tag will disappear when you create a portfolio with this model.

How to create an Account Set

An Account Set is a group of specific client accounts to which you want to apply an Asset Model. It defines which clients will receive the portfolio allocation.

To create an Account Set, follow these steps:

1. Navigate to Setup > Account Set.

You can change the name of your Account Set by clicking the pencil icon and entering a new name in the pop-up window.

2. Click the portfolio icon and select the accounts you wish to add to the new Account Set.

3. Set the target investment parameters.

You can set your target investment as either a percentage of your free balance (Investment %) or an absolute currency value (Investment Amount). The Investment Amount and Investment % fields are interdependent. Entering a value in one field will automatically calculate the other.

If the Asset Model is configured using absolute Quantities (rather than Targets or %), the Investment Amounts for the accounts in the Account Set will be ignored.

4. Click Save Account Set in the top right-hand corner of the screen.

5. The new Account Set is tagged as a draft until it is associated with a model.

How to place an order

  1. Navigate to Setup > Order Placement and select your Asset Model and Account Set. The Asset Model will then be applied to the chosen Account Set.

  2. Review the order prices. The calculated quantity is based on the price set for each order.

  3. A pivot table will appear, allowing you to review the calculated orders before execution.

  4. Click Create Orders in the top right-hand corner of the screen.

  5. In the confirmation window, click Confirm.

6. Once confirmed, navigate to the Allocator summary table. Here, you can monitor all account details, including active orders, P/L, initial value and currency.

Order status description

The status of your orders is indicated by their colour.

Green

The orders have been filled, and the positions have been opened in the account.

Blue

The orders are currently active (including partially filled orders). Positions that are not yet fully filled will be displayed with a "–" in the table.

Red

The orders have been cancelled or rejected. Hover over the status to see which assets were rejected, and check the Order History tab within Setup for specific rejection reasons. These positions will also appear as "–" in the table.

How to rebalance a portfolio

You can rebalance a portfolio to adjust asset percentages and quantities, and add or remove assets from the model.

To do this, follow these steps:

1. Select the desired model, then click Rebalance. Alternatively, right-click the model and select Rebalance from the context menu.

2. The model you want to modify will open. Update the required details and click Save Model.

We recommend avoiding changes to the Account Set during rebalancing. It may complicate subsequent portfolio analysis and future rebalancing due to asymmetrical allocation.

3. When you modify the model, the system checks whether the model has already been applied to any Account Sets. If it has, your changes will be applied. Otherwise, the changes will not be saved.

If you agree, click Save and proceed to rebalance orders in the confirmation window. Note: Changes to the Asset Model will be saved only after the rebalancing process is fully completed.

Limitations and rules

Existing positions

If an account already has an open position in an asset before rebalancing begins, the module will either include it in the calculation or close it. It cannot ignore existing positions.

Manual edits

We recommend not modifying these positions via the standard Order module. Doing so may disrupt the original allocation and statistics, potentially causing errors in future rebalances.

Account mapping

Each Asset Model can be linked to only one Account Set. If you want to use the same model for different clients, you must duplicate the model and ensure that no accounts overlap between the two sets.
